James Collings has joined UK law firm Ashfords, as a partner in the award-winning employment team. Having formerly spent 20 years with Foot Anstey LLP, he brings a wealth of experience to the Plymouth office, with excellent advisory and advocacy expertise supporting commercial clients with all of their people needs, including representing his clients in employment tribunal claims across the UK.

Recognised as ‘an excellent professional’ in the Chambers and Partners UK Guide this year, James has extensive experience in supporting directors and HR professionals on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law and people issues. He also has particular expertise in supporting clients in the retail, manufacturing and charity sectors with complex employee relations matters, minimum wage issues, senior exits, discrimination, and transfers of undertakings.

James joins an accomplished team, with Hayley Marles recently promoted to senior associate and Emily Bowden and Amy Penn promoted to associate. The team works with companies based in the UK and across the globe, providing practical guidance and support to businesses across a range of people-related issues including redundancy and restructure exercises, corporate acquisitions, preparation of employment and HR documentation, through to immigration issues and employment tribunal representation.

James said: “I’m thrilled to join Ashfords. I look forward to collaborating and working closely with my new colleagues, to make a real difference for our clients.”

Stephen Moore, head of employment at Ashfords, said: “It’s a pleasure to welcome James into the team. His knowledge and expertise will strengthen the team as we continue to deliver an outstanding level of service to our clients.”

Ashfords’ employment team was ranked Tier 1 in this year’s Legal 500, with Hayley Marles, senior associate and Lorna Hughes, associate, recognised in the rising stars category. The team was also ranked Band 2 in the Chambers and Partners 2024 results.

Ashfords are valued legal partners to a wide range of corporate, public and private clients across the UK and internationally; counted on by clients to get the right result whether that’s delivering commercial objectives, protecting family assets, making investments or solving disputes.
