Our Neurodiversity group has spearheaded completion of the firm’s first stage of the Disability Confident Scheme, demonstrating our commitment to supporting people with disabilities in the workplace.
The Disability Confident Scheme is a UK government initiative that encourages employers to recruit and retain people with disabilities. It is a voluntary scheme designed to make steps towards reducing the disability employment gap.
The scheme has three levels, with a certification upon completion of each level. Ashfords has achieved the Level 1 certification and is now taking steps to progress to Level 2.
In order to achieve the Level 1 certification, Ashfords has committed to the following:
ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible,
communicating and promoting vacancies,
offering an interview to people with disabilities who meet the minimum criteria for the job,
providing reasonable adjustments as required,
supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition
at least one activity that will make a difference for people with disabilities.
James Collings, Partner and Neurodiversity Group sponsor, said: "At Ashfords, we are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive environment. Becoming a Disability Confident certified employer is a natural next step in our ongoing journey towards ensuring that our recruitment processes and working environment are inclusive and supportive.
We believe that creating opportunities for people with disabilities benefits everyone. As well as helping talented individuals thrive, it enables businesses to access a wider range of skills, perspectives and experience, delivering tangible commercial benefits and creating a stronger, more successful organisation.”
Ashfords has several inclusion groups across the firm, including gender and sexuality, menopause and fertility. These initiatives provide an opportunity for people to come together, shape engagement, raise awareness and help deliver an inclusive and supportive environment at Ashfords.
