The linked article suggests 10 quick ways you can help improve safety on your farm. The latest HSE statistics have revealed that Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing has now overtaken all other industries as the most dangerous - with a fatality rate 18 times higher than the all industry average.

Generally, in farming the biggest killers are:

  • Being struck by a moving vehicle;
  • Being injured by animals;
  • Falls from height;
  • Being struck by moving or falling objects; and
  • Being trapped by an object overturning or collapsing.

As a result, it is important to ensure that as far as possible, these risks are identified and controlled on your farm to protect the health and safety of yourself, your workers, the public and even your family.

Often in busy environments such as farms, safety procedures and checks can become eroded over time. In addition, as many businesses increasingly diversify it is important to recognise any new risks that may have been introduced, and implement effective processes to control them.

As farm safety week draws to a close, now is the perfect time to take a moment to consider what you can do to effectively identify, control and reduce risks. Our business risk and regulation team are on hand to assist you with any areas of concern.
