UK law firm Ashfords has announced the promotion of Fergus Baker to partner in its corporate team, after his arrival as a legal director in January 2025.
Working across the firm’s South West offices, Fergus has developed a strong reputation in a range of corporate matters, including domestic M&A on both the sell and buy side, equity investments, corporate governance and group re-organisation advisory work. He has particular expertise in supporting owner-managed businesses throughout all stages of their life cycle and working collaboratively with colleagues and other professional advisers to help business owners achieve their exit and succession plans.
This promotion highlights his expertise, the strength of his client relationships and his contribution to the firm’s culture and values. Fergus’ promotion is part of the firm’s wider 2026 spring promotions round, which includes 12 promotions to associate.
Louise Workman, partner and CEO at Ashfords, said: "It's fantastic to celebrate Fergus' achievement. Since joining Ashfords, he has made a significant impact through the strength of his technical expertise, his commitment to delivering excellent outcomes for clients, and the valued relationships he has built across the firm. This appointment reinforces the firm’s investment in its people and their career growth."
Fergus said: "I’m proud to be promoted to partner at such an exciting time for the firm. I’m looking forward to continuing to build strong relationships with our clients, helping them navigate complex transactions and achieve their growth, exit and succession strategies. I’m also really motivated to contribute to the continued success of our corporate team."
Ashfords' corporate team helps businesses and their owners deliver their strategies and growth plans across a range of corporate transactions, fundraisings and investments. Recent work highlights include advising the Viridor Group on its vendor due diligence in relation to KKR’s sale of a substantial minority stake in the group to Equitix, and The Gut Stuff on its sale to drive growth in the gut health market.
