Leading law firm Ashfords is delighted to support the Devon Junior Chess Championships 2018. The event is being held on Sunday 9th December at West Exe School in Exeter and will shine a light on outstanding junior chess players in Devon.

The day is a double event – an individual competition to find the best players in each age group, combined with a schools’ team cup for younger players, where teams of four or five will compete for the Under-9 and Under-11 trophies.

Ashfords is proud to be a sponsor and help support local junior chess players. Ashfords sponsor a wide range of events and initiatives each year. In the past 12 months the firm has supported community sports teams and athletes, local business groups, business and community awards, and community participation events.

Devon Junior Chess Association (DJCA), a small committee of volunteers who promote junior chess in the county, is organising the tournament.  Dave Regis, Chair of the Association, said, “We are pleased to be moving this event for the first time in many years to Exeter, where we hope it will be accessible to young chess players from every part of Devon.  Many thanks to Ashfords for supporting the event.”

Stephen Homer, Partner and Head of Adjudication and Arbitration Services at Ashfords LLP, commented: “Ashfords are really pleased to be associated with this event and to be able to assist with bringing it to West Exe School.  Good luck to all entrants.”

DJCA co-ordinate tournaments and coaching days for players of all abilities from those who are new to competitive chess right through to those who play at county level.

Dave added: “It’s always terrific to see the great concentration and sporting attitudes shown by the youngsters, and we look forward to an exciting day’s chess!  Everyone gets to play six games, so even if you lose the first game, you have a chance to come back up the ranks  during the rest of the day.  And we’ll be looking for players of all ages to play for the County later in the season – come along and impress us!”
