Ashfords LLP is delighted to continue supporting the University of the West of England’s (UWE Bristol) Equity essay competition. Equity is a positive action programme with a forward-looking community of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) student talent from all over UWE Bristol.

The comprehensive Equity programme incorporates coaching, workshops, webinars and networking events. National statistics indicate that BAME students often face a disadvantage in the jobs market after graduating. Equity is part of UWE Bristol’s commitment towards empowering BAME students to build their confidence in achieving a good honours degree and go onto great things after graduation.

The Equity essay competition is open to BAME students and recent graduates from any faculty at UWE Bristol. Individuals are required to submit a 1,500 word essay in response to questions in one of four categories: (1) Diversity/Corporate Social Responsibility, (2) Legal Tech/Artificial Intelligence, (3) the Impact of Covid-19 on BAME graduates and employability and (4) SMEs.

The competition was launched on 12 July 2021 and the closing date is the 31 August 2021.

Ashfords Partner Rory Suggett said: "We are really pleased to be working with UWE Bristol once again in support of their Equity programme. The competition is a fantastic opportunity for students and recent graduates to evaluate and contribute to the debate on these topics. We look forward to seeing the results and good luck to all the entrants!

Jaya Mistry, Equity Project Officer at UWE Bristol said: “UWE Bristol and The Equity programme are extremely grateful to Ashfords LLP for their donation to continue supporting the Ashfords Equity essay competition. The competition will offer BAME students and recent graduates a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talent and write about a subject that they may be passionate about or is new to them. Thanks to Ashfords, this will help build their confidence and will have a positive impact on their future success.”
