Ashfords LLP is delighted to announce that our Charity Legacy team has become a Corporate Partner of the Institute of Legacy Management (ILM). In order to achieve Corporate Partner status the firm has needed to show its understanding and commitment to the charity sector and also illustrate the ways in which it can add value to ILM members.

One of the things that sets Ashfords apart from other law firms operating in the same field is its innovative approach to everything it does.  In particular its strategy to design events  specifically for the charity sector has proved hugely popular. These have included a seminar at the Tower of London entitled 'Fraud, Forgery and Coercion' and the latest in a series of Legacy PR Masterclasses which was held in conjunction with the editor of the Mail on Sunday and Maltin PR. The next event will be held in the State Rooms at Lambeth Palace in October and will cover aspects of dealing with unusual gifts.

Ashfords knows that the quality of advice, responsiveness and commercial approach are only to be expected, but initial discussions with prospective clients always include consideration of the PR aspects of any potentially contentious matters which helps to protect the reputation of the charity in question.

The firm is increasingly becoming known as a ‘thought leader’ in the contentious probate arena and its  focus on understanding the needs of charity clients means that it has a major and growing presence in the sector. Members of the Ashfords’ Charity team feature continuously in both Chambers UK and Legal 500.

Kerry Morgan-Gould, Partner at Ashfords and head of the Contentious Charity team, said: By joining the ILM network, we will gain an exceptional level of insight into how charities operate, and Corporate Partnership offers us an unparalleled opportunity to build working relationships with the charities responsible for the £2 billion per annum charity legacy market”.

Matthew Lagden, CEO of ILM, said: “We are delighted to have Ashfords on board as our newest corporate partner. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise which I am sure will be of great benefit to our members.”

The Ashfords Charity Team provides training and advice lines to help charity trustees with their obligations, and arranges seminars and networking events to share best practice. The team can be contacted on 0800 0931 336 or by email on willdisputes@ashfords.co.uk should you wish to discuss how we might be able to help.
