Biography

Mairi is an associate in the immigration team who advises on both corporate and personal immigration matters, as well on UK nationality law. She qualified as a solicitor in 2023.

Mairi frequently advises corporate and educational organisations and entrepreneurs in the UK on sponsor licence applications and compliance, as well as Right to Work in the UK queries. Mairi also represents businesses and educational institutions who are audited by the Home Office, and has assisted organisations who have had civil penalties imposed by the Home Office for suspected immigration noncompliance.

Mairi has also successfully advised on a wide range of complex and discretionary visa and nationality matters for individuals. This has included personal immigration, such as family based applications or applications for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK; applications for investors, entrepreneurs, and other high-net-worth clients; human rights based claims; advising EU nationals with status under the EU Settlement Scheme; and British nationality claims.

Relevant experience

  • Assists multiple large corporate clients, including international banks, hotel chains and manufacturing companies, in facilitating UK immigration and mobility strategy, providing ongoing compliance support to their HR teams.
  • Represented a London-based restaurant business in successfully appealing civil penalties issued by the Home Office. Supported client moving forward by undertaking a mock audit on Right to Work practices and Home Office sponsor duty compliance, providing a bespoke training session to the client, and advising on best practices for the future.
  • Advised company client on Expansion Worker sponsor licence and associated visa applications for the migrant worker and dependants.
  • Successfully represented client appealing a refusal for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK based on experience of domestic violence.
  • Advised on an application for a Returning Resident visa where the applicant had spent significant time outside the UK due to the Covid-19 pandemic which led to loss of their Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK.
  • Represented clients successfully in applications to remain in the UK based on Articles 3 and 8 of the Human Rights Act.
  • Mairi is an active member of the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association.
