We are delighted to report that Ashfords' Disputed Wills & Trusts Team has been recognised in both the Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 2023 rankings as "one of the top firms in this area of work". Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 are independent research companies that rank lawyers, legal departments and law firms in the UK and globally on an annual basis.

In 2023, Ashfords’ Disputed Wills and Trusts team has received top rankings for Charities: Legacy Disputes in Chambers & Partners as well as in Private Wealth Disputes, and for Contentious Trusts & Probate in the Legal 500.

The team is one of the largest teams in the country specialising in advising individuals and charities with will validity claims, trust administration disputes, claims under the Inheritance Act (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, proprietary estoppel disputes, professional negligence disputes, construction/rectification claims and more.  Some of the team's key clients include the RNLI, National Marine Aquarium, Help the Aged and a number of other high profile, household name organisations whose identities remain confidential.

The accolades the team have received this year include:

"Ashfords deserves its reputation as one of the top firms in this area of work. Whilst they are based in the South West, their work is national, and they more than match the top London-based firms in respect of their know-how and approach to cases"

"Ashfords has been professional and experienced, and to date there have been no legal matters that we have not felt entirely confident in instructing them on"

"Ashfords understands and supports the charity sector, rather than simply feeding off it. The service is accurately tailored to each client’s needs"

"they are very clever, very good lawyers, very approachable and very good value for money"

Ashfords’ Disputed Wills and Trusts team is led by Robert Horsey with partners Kerry Morgan-Gould and Barny Croft, all of whom have been singled out for recognition in both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500.

Robert Horsey has been described as "fantastic on all fronts", "endlessly patient, informative, and nuanced in his analysis and guidance", "extremely personable” with “great speed, agility and good humour handling very complex and fussy details".

Kerry Morgan-Gould, recognised as a leading individual, is described as a "wonderful solicitor" who goes "above and beyond" in assisting clients. She is labelled "very approachable" and "a calming influence with her outstanding knowledge”, giving "excellent, pragmatic advice to charities".

Barny Croft is described as a "real rising star", "superb at mental capacity work"; a "pleasure to work alongside", and "a real heavy-hitter with an excellent knowledge of the law, and the tactical acumen to achieve excellent results for his clients".
