Cycling Accidents

Advising cyclists on how to make or defend against claims should an accident happen.

Cycling has grown in popularity across the UK, both as a sport and a means of travel.

Cycle lanes and high visibility clothing help to reduce the risk of accident, but cyclists are still more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a road accident than any other type of road user.

If you are a cyclist involved in an accident, we can advise on any compensation that you may be entitled to and how to go about making a claim. We can also support if you need to defend against a claim, assisting with insurance coverage issues as needed.

We can provide free, no obligation initial advice with a realistic assessment of the strength of your claim or defence - with an option of no win, no fee funding.

If you are a cyclist involved in an accident, here are our top tips:

  • Take photos at the scene, obtain contact details for any witnesses, call the police if there is an injury, attend A&E, report any potholes or defects to the council. Be aware of the three year time limit for injury claim.
  • Take photographs of damaged items and retain them for inspection. Keep any receipts or records.
  • Ensure that you have adequate insurance, which will cover third party claims. Not all household policies will cover you and your bike.
  • Be safe, be seen and always comply with the Highway Code.

Our experience advising cyclists involved in accidents:

  • Acting for a cyclist who was struck by a motor vehicle suffering multiple fractures and a head injury.
  • Acting for a cyclist struck on the head by the wing mirror of motor vehicle when riding to work, causing serious injuries including a head injury and right skull fracture.
  • Acting for a cyclist cycling past a line of parked cars when a motor vehicle pulled out into the cyclist's path, causing an accident and a fractured clavicle.
