Biography

Will is a Trainee Solicitor in the Employment team in the Bristol office. In this seat, Will is assisting the team on contentious matters at all stages of the litigation process, acting for both the claimant and the respondent.

Prior to this, Will undertook a seat in the Real Estate team and gained exposure to residential development and affordable housing work. Will’s work included  assisting with property acquisitions and lease reviews.

Prior to starting his Training Contract, Will was a paralegal in the Court of Protection Team for nearly two years, assisting in representing elderly and vulnerable clients under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, on the instruction of the Official Solicitor and Independent Mental Capacity Act advocates.

Will joined Ashfords in October 2021 after completing his LLB Law degree at Bristol University, where he obtained a first class award. Will began his training contract in September 2023 and is undertaking the Solicitors Qualifying Examination alongside this.

Relevant experience

During his time in the Court of Protection team, Will assisted with the following matters:

  • Private client: Acting for P, a lady with a diagnosis of Huntington’s disease on the instruction of the Official Solicitor. The proceedings concerning P’s discharge from an unsuitable care home, in circumstances where restraint and sedation were anticipated for the move.
  • Private client: Acting for P, a young man with a diagnosis of autism, in a delayed discharge from hospital. The case involved a complex dispute as to whether he was detainable under the Mental Health Act and advice was required in respect of anticipatory declarations.
  • Private client: Acting for P, a young lady with a diagnosis of autism. The case concerned her capacity to make decisions about litigation, residence and care. Judicial guidance was provided around the discharge of a transparency order. 
  • Private client: Acting for the husband of P in Court of Protection proceedings concerning where she should live and receive care.
