Biography

Sonia is an Associate in the Trusts and Estates Team.

Sonia acts for a wide range of clients in respect of all aspects of trusts and estates. The majority of her work is in relation to high net worth clients and advising with regard to wealth protection and asset preservation.  

She has many years experience in the administration of estates to include applications for Business Property Relief and Agricultural Property Relief and all aspects of gifting during lifetime.

She specialises in finding a bespoke and individual solution to wealth protection tailored specifically to her clients needs.

Prior to joining Ashfords, Sonia was a Partner and headed up the Trusts and Estate Department of a firm in the South West. At the same time, she was an Associate Lecturer at Plymouth University supporting the delivery of specialist areas of the curriculum to undergraduates and in particular Equity and Trusts.

Sonia has been a Full Accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly since 2013 previously serving on the committee. She was also a member of the board of Devon and Somerset Law Society taking a particular interest in the Federation of European Bars attending conferences in Geneva and Frankfurt.

Sonia has achieved her Higher Rights of Audience.

Relevant experience

  • Acting for a farming family and finding workeable solutions to ensure the ongoing success of the farm for future generations.
  • Acting for a Lord in regard to complex issues surrounding the inheritance of his father's landed estate.
  • Acting for a foreign domiciled Ambassador with regard to HMRC income tax issues in lifetime and thereafter dealing with the adminisiation and taxable basis of the estate in the UK.
