Biography

Hugh is a solicitor in the Commercial Disputes team.

Hugh acts for claimants and defendants in a wide range of commercial disputes, having a particular interest in the tech sector and regularly advising on contentious data protection issues.

Hugh trained with Ashfords after changing career and receiving distinctions in both the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC). Prior to studying law Hugh received an MSc in International Business from the University of Sheffield and worked in business development for two leading Microsoft consultancy practices - here his roles focussed on the acquisition of new business and the management of existing clients, in connection with large scale software consultancy projects.

Hugh also spent a year working as a paralegal in the Technology & Privacy team of a London based, European law firm before joining Ashfords in 2021.

Relevant experience

Hugh has recently been involved in the following cases:

  1. Advising a start up in relation to a dispute with an enterprise cloud computing platform over billing/usage issues.
  2. Offering advice to a UK manufacturer following a cyber-security incident at one of its suppliers.
  3. Obtaining an attractive settlement for a defendant being pursued for unpaid invoices.
  4. Advising an entrepreneur seeking payment of fees in connection with a cryptocurrency/digital currency scale up.
  5. Assisting various clients with responses to data subject access requests and the risk of ICO regulatory enforcement.
