Biography

Cara is an Associate in the Commercial Litigation Team.

Cara is experienced in advising clients in relation to a broad range of commercial disputes including contractual disputes, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, professional negligence and debt recovery. Cara is also able to deal with company restorations and applications for rectification by the Registrar of Companies.  

Cara works in the team specialising in civil fraud. This includes acting for both individual and corporate clients on claims involving allegations of:

  • Misrepresentation
  • Deceit 
  • Unlawful means conspiracy 
  • Unjust enrichment
  • Knowing receipt 
  • Breach of trust
  • Breach of contract 
  • Breach of fiduciary duty

Cara is able to support clients through all stages of the litigation process, from pre-action through to trial and enforcement. Cara also has experience of achieving settlement through alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.

Cara is a committee member of Ashfords' XYBC and is regularly involved in organising and hosting events for young professionals in the Exeter area.

Relevant experience

  • In 2020/21, Cara was seconded to work as in-house Legal Counsel for a FTSE 250 company. Cara acted on a wide range of litigation and regulatory matters, including disputes involving regulators.  
  • Working alongside Claire Boucher in advising and representing two companies and its director in defending a £4.2 million claim in which there were allegations of misrepresentation, unlawful means conspiracy and deceit. Terms of settlement were agreed shortly after mediation.  
  • Acting on behalf of a corporate finance advisory firm in a claim to recover £250,000 of unpaid commission fees. Terms of settlement were agreed at the pre-action stage.
