Probate fee increase shelved by PM's suspension of parliament

Following the recent prorogation of parliament, the proposed probate fee increase has been allowed to lapse.

This has been welcomed by the Law Society and practitioners. There was a lot of criticism surrounding the proposed fees increase which would have seen a rise from the current fixed fees of £155/£215 to a sliding scale of charges up to £6,000 (depending on the size of the estate).

Unfortunately this does not mean that the proposed probate fees increase cannot take place in the future, but at least the current fees will still apply for the time being.
