Monday 6 February - Sunday 12 February 2023 is National Apprenticeship Week, providing an opportunity to celebrate the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

We have spoken to some of our current apprentices about their experience of apprenticeships at Ashfords, offering insight into the benefits of apprenticeships and the opportunities on offer at the firm.

Below, we speak with Eva Gibson-Patel, Paralegal apprentice in our Trusts & Estates team.

What’s great about working at Ashfords?

I have worked at Ashfords for a year and a half now, everyone is so lovely and easy to get along with which makes the office an enjoyable place to work. Working while learning is so effective and I find my team are always willing to help me with my studies where they can and are very supportive.

What are the differences between office life and school life?

Office life is different to school/college life as every day is different and some days are busier than others. There is an opportunity to work from home from time to time and the flexibility is great. In-office life comes with much more independence than life at school. However, there is a great support network if you need it.

How does an apprenticeship work at Ashfords?

I am a Paralegal Apprentice so I am enrolled at BPP University on their online apprenticeship programme, although there are campus locations you can access if you would like.

I have a study day once a week, which consists of preparation reading and then an online interactive classroom lesson. There are two aspects to the apprenticeship for my course - the legal content and the portfolio side (which is more practical and applies to my day to day job).

About the Paralegal Apprenticeship

The level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship lasts 24 months and provides a comprehensive introduction to to law and practice and legal research. Completing this apprenticeship will enable you to work in a full time Paralegal role and offers scope to progress further in a legal career.
