Biography

Emma Harris is a partner in the trusts and estates team, specialising in complex UK and international estate administration, succession planning and lifetime structuring for high-net-worth individuals, families and entrepreneurs.

Emma advises on the full spectrum of private client work, with a particular focus on high-value and technically complex estates, often involving substantial international assets, business interests and sensitive family dynamics. She acts on estates worth hundreds of millions of pounds, including those with cross-border elements, trusts, landed estates and private company structures.

Her practice also includes lifetime estate and succession planning for entrepreneurs, international families and landed estates, advising on structuring, governance and asset protection, as well as the interaction between trusts, tax and family considerations. Emma frequently works alongside accountants, trustees, financial advisers and overseas lawyers to deliver coordinated, pragmatic advice.

Emma acts for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, trustees, , as well as referrers including accountants and financial advisers.

Emma is a highly experienced private client partner with a background at a leading City private client practice, where Emma headed up the estate administration team and advised on some of the most complex and high value estates in the market. This background underpins a strong reputation for technical excellence, commercial judgement and the ability to advise sensitively on matters involving family dynamics, governance and long term succession planning.

Emma is regularly instructed on matters involving significant international and structural complexity and is known for working collaboratively with professional advisers to deliver clear, practical outcomes for clients.

Relevant experience

  • Ultra high net worth family
    Advising on: The administration of a multi hundred million pound estate involving UK and overseas assets, multiple trusts, private company interests and complex tax and succession issues, coordinating advice across several jurisdictions.
  • Ultra-high-net-worth individual
    Advising on: The administration of a former spouse’s estate where they were owed a significant debt from the former spouse estate dating back to their historic divorce proceedings. The estate whilst a high-value-estate ended up being insolvent but it was possible to secure full payment of the capital debt due and some of late payment interest.
  • High-net-worth-family
    Advising on: IHT planning and CGT structuring for a non-UK-resident family in relation to assets in the UK. Also co-ordinating a tax disclosure at the same time for the family in relation to a correction of the family's position with HMRC. Linking in with the family's offshore advisors to tie together succession planning in light of the relevant Matrimonial Property Regime of their Country of residence and review of offshore structures previously implemented for succession planning - purposes - considering and advising on the impact of such planning in the UK.
