Biography

David advises private individuals and charities in relation to matters arising out of contentious WillsTrusts and Estates and also in relation to contentious Court of Protection matters.

Prior to joining Ashfords, David worked as a Paralegal at a national law firm. He worked in their Private Capital team on a variety of matters.

David had a successful career in the Oil & Gas industry before changing to law, working for a large multinational corporation. He became the Construction Operations Supervisor after having worked offshore on many international projects for a number of years.

David studied for his Law degree at the Open University during his time in the Oil & Gas industry after having successfully completing his first degree in Marine Geography at Cardiff University. David completed the LPC and MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law.

David completed his training contract with Ashfords in 2021 having completed a seat in the Real Estate team where he worked on a range of commercial property matters, a seat in the Construction and Infrastructure Team where he worked on a range of contentious and non-contentious matters, and a seat in the Disputed Wills and Trusts Team where he worked on a wide range of matters concerning private individuals and charities.

David is a committee member of Ashfords' XYBC and is regularly involved in organising and hosting events for young professionals in the Exeter area.

Relevant experience

  • Private client: Assisting with a contested Court of Protection matter regarding the mental capacity of the client’s husband at the time that he made his Will and his Lasting Power of Attorney.
  • Private client: Assisting an adult beneficiary in relation to a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
  • Private client: Assisting a litigation friend who has been appointed to represent a protected party.
  • Pursuing and defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, challenges to the validity of Wills, Executor disputes and general issues relating to the operation of Trusts.
