Data Protection Bill Statement of Intent

07.08.17

Today's publication of the Data Protection Bill's Statement of Intent confirms that data protection is a priority for this Government. It is essential that Brexit has a minimal impact on data flows between the UK and Europe, to that end the Government is set to introduce the Data Protection Bill to parliament after the summer recess.

The Government's ambition for the data science sector to thrive is encouraging for everyone involved in data businesses. The Information Commissioner has today reemphasised the fact that the Data Protection Bill will make organisations more accountable for their data processing activities, with data privacy being a priority for her office. Her statement should be seen as a warning shot to organisations to get their houses in order by 25 May 2018.
