UK High Court recognises Bitcoin as property

28.08.19

In a landmark ruling (Liam David Robertson v Persons Unknown) the Commerical Court in London has granted Liam Robertson, the CEO of Alphabit Fund, an asset preservation order over more than £1 million of Bitcoin stolen from him in a spear phishing attack. This case is important as it is the first time that a UK Court has recognised Bitcoin as legal property. Although only an interim decision, this case potentially assists other victims of fraud in the crypto-asset space.
