Ashfords’ commercial team has advised a protein bar brand on product labelling, health and nutrition claims and general consumer law.

Food is a highly regulated area, especially where specifically regulated ingredients, such as cocoa powder, are used. The client has tried to market their product in a unique way, using an innovative combination of ingredients to create a product that is not high in fat, sugar and salt. We understood the client’s marketing aims and were able to provide solutions that were both legally complaint and helped the client achieve its aims.

The client instructed Ashfords due to our expertise in food law and pragmatic approach to the way in which we provide advice. With industry experience, our team was also able to understand the product, market and commercial challenges posed by regulation and how the client was hoping to overcome these.

A new client of the firm, the business’ aim is to make health inclusive and accessible through its bold marketing and avid brand followers. The client continues to innovate and create new formulations for its products to improve customer experience.

The Head of Product said: “Kristy has been a huge support to our small team, providing swift, concise advice and insight on a number of regulatory subjects. Having worked with other regulatory advisors who often just regurgitate regulation back to you leaving you with more questions, it’s invaluable to me to work with someone who assesses the situation at hand, helps us to make sense of relevant regulations and gives a tailored, actionable response. Whether it’s a quick sense check, or a more thorough review - Kristy’s approachability and responsiveness make regulatory matters much less of a headache for me!”
