Work Experience at Ashfords

We offer young people an insight into the world of work through our work experience programmes, which aim to inspire students to think ahead to a possible career in law and to begin developing key business skills. We are proud to have formed partnerships to support students who may not have such opportunities without these organisations.

In order to maximise access to work experience opportunities, we have partnered with social mobility focused organisations to deliver these programmes. (Please note that spaces on these work experience weeks cannot be reserved, and applications must go through the relevant provider).

Bristol Future Talent Partnership

We work with Bristol Future Talent Partnership to deliver a shared objective of removing barriers and raising the aspirations of young people from diverse ethnic backgrounds in the Bristol area.

We do this by offering a meaningful work experience programme to ethnically diverse Year 12 students in our Bristol office, which involves the students participating in group projects, interactive sessions and workshops, whilst also offering the opportunity to spend time with our legal teams in departments. As part of the week, we offer vital career skills sessions, including CV writing, interview techniques, networking and presenting.

This placement is aimed at students wishing to pursue a career in law, however, we also cover how business support teams play a part in supporting a law firm.

Pathways to Law

We work with Pathways to Law in conjunction with the University of Exeter and The Sutton Trust, to offer fair access to quality work experience for Year 12 students in the Exeter area. To obtain a place on the programme, students must be high achieving academically but they are also required to meet specific social mobility criteria, such as being in receipt of free school meals, attending a school with a lower than average progression rate to Higher Education or being the first in their generation to attend university.

Social Mobility Business Partnership

We support the Social Mobility Business Partnership (SMBP) which is a charity organisation bringing together professional services firms, commercial organisations and professional sports teams, committed to offering opportunities to students from low income backgrounds and supporting them in pursuit of their career aspirations. These placements consist of 4 days within the work place, offering an insight into the working world. Ashfords involvement includes running the first day resilience session to set the students up for their week in the workplace. Topics include goal setting, dealing with pressure and overcoming setbacks.

Work Experience Placement

We are passionate about offering valuable, content-filled work experience programmes to participating students. Due to the time and resource required in the organisation of these weeks, we are not able to offer any work experience opportunities outside of the programmes noted above.
