Biography

John is an associate in the family team. John advises clients across a wide variety of family law matters, including divorce and financial remedy cases, as well as private children law. These cases often include substantial company assets, defined benefit pensions, pre-matrimonial and post-separation assets, as well as other complex issues. He also advises on wealth protection/management and succession planning, with the preparation of pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements. 

He is a member of Resolution, an association of family justice professionals committed to resolving family matters as constructively as possible. John takes a pragmatic and commercial approach to resolving disputes, with the aim of ensuring that each client’s individual needs and priorities are met and seeking to help guide them to a favourable outcome.

Prior to joining Ashfords, John trained and qualified at a regional law firm where he also worked as part of the family team.

Relevant experience

  • Assisting partners with financial remedy proceedings involving high net worth clients. These cases often include businesses, inherited wealth and assets held in both this jurisdiction and abroad. Working alongside counsel, financial advisers and other professionals to ensure that advice is comprehensive and any financial settlement is both feasible and tax efficient; 
  • Advising clients both inside and outside of court proceedings, including experience with Non-Court Dispute Resolution such as mediation and private FDRs;
  • Preparing and advising in relation to pre-nuptial agreements that seek to protect inherited and/or high value assets; 
  • Advising clients regarding complex pension assets of substantial value; 
  • Representing parents, obtaining orders regarding the child arrangements and addressing specific issues in dispute;
  • Making successful applications for injunctive relief for those in need of assistance after suffering from domestic abuse.
