Will a lack of materials slow up new builds?

An interesting post from Knight Frank which highlights how construction relies on imported materials in particular from China at 16% of the total in 2018. It doesn't break this down into commercial and residential sectors so it is unclear what percentage of imported materials house building relies on but we can only assume it's significant.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the rate of building and also what the impact on sale prices will be if supply chains are severely affected once everything starts opening up.

These top five import markets accounted for 46% of total construction-related imports in 2018, emphasising the UK’s reliance on China and continental Europe.
