Strong Customer Authentication ("SCA") is being rolled out by banks, lenders and shops to help combat the rise of consumer fraud  - £671 million was lost in this way during 2018.

The idea is to add a layer of security to contactless payments and online shopping.  If a consumer attempts to spend more than £28 they are likely to have to provide another layer of information, for example a security code sent to them by text.

Many retailers complained that the suggested start date of 14th September was unrealistic and so these changes will be staggered through until 2021.  John Lewis appears to be the first to advise its customers of the changes.
