This is a really important piece of proposed legislation and whether this Government enacts this or another does, the importance cannot be understated. It has to be right in the light of the terrible events at Grenfell and the systemic failings in the system.
The key will be for any Regulator to have real teeth and to be in a position to move quickly where buildings are unsafe.
Let's hope there will never be another Grenfell, but if the signs are there, then we must have a system which is robust enough to make sure the disaster never happens again.
Regardless of the current political impasse, let's hope that Parliament is soon able to get on and pass this legislation to get confidence and clarity into our building regulation system.
