UK law firm Ashfords' environmental expertise has been recognised with appointments to various environment panels.

Senior associate Paul Collins, an environmental law specialist, has been appointed to LexisNexis' panel of environmental law experts. Paul has vast experience advising clients in the private and public sector on aspects of environmental law, with a thorough understanding on how government departments and the environmental regulators operate. This informs his approach to working with his clients where effective influence and working with government and the regulators is critical to delivering client objectives.

Paul's appointment follows his success in supporting the Environmental Services Association (ESA) on its response to the UK ETS Authority on proposals to expand the emissions trading scheme, to include energy from waste and what the potential implications of the expansion of the UK ETS might mean for the recycling and waste management sector.

Paul is also supporting the Corry review into the regulation and regulators at Defra. The review will explore whether the current regulatory landscape is fit for purpose, and will support recommendations to ensure that this regulation is steering economic growth and protecting the environment.

Ashfords' environment team are leading advisers to individuals, businesses and public bodies on environmental compliance, regulatory investigations and enforcement action. The team works closely with clients in identifying legal and reputational risks with the environmental aspects of their business.

Paul Collins said: 'It's great news to have been appointed to the LexisNexis' panel of environmental law experts, further embedding in a sector which the firm is significantly invested in. In addition the firm is delighted to be supporting the ESA at a critically important time for the sector and the UK, and we look forward to helping shape the future of environmental policy, law and regulation through our involvement with the Corry review. These appointments further enhance the depth of expertise the firm has in this growing and important sector in which the firm is recognised as a leading adviser.'
