Tim Platel



Tim is a SRA Regulated Professional Support Solicitor in the Equity Release Team, providing expert knowledge and experience to other team members. Tim deals exclusively with Equity Release transactions and has advised on many hundreds of cases. Tim has been qualified for 40 years.

Tim is an experienced and versatile Solicitor with many years' experience acting for and advising clients across a broad range of legal issues, with a particular emphasis on property matters. In his day to day role, Tim liaises between Land Registry, team members, clients and other lawyers ensuring that any issues impacting on the quality of title are quickly and successfully resolved with the minimum of inconvenience to the client. Tim's expertise in relation to unregistered titles is a particular asset to both the team and clients alike. 

Prior to joining Ashfords and after working in the legal IT industry as in-house counsel, Tim was a Professional Support Solicitor helping other lawyers to chart the future course of challenging property transactions and advising on difficult questions of law.


Relevant experience

  • Various clients: Assisting private and commercial clients on property sale and purchase transactions of every type including freeholds and leaseholds, lease extensions and lease drafting, Right to Buy, Help to Buy, and shared equity transactions, easements, rights of way and the variation and release of covenants.
  • Developers: Acting for developers in the creation of estate management schemes and drafting leases and transfers and dealing with the subsequent plot/unit sales.
  • Lenders: Acting for off-balance sheet lenders, drafting terms and conditions, mortgages and other security documents and advising on the enforceability of mortgages and recovery procedures.
