Jean Norton



Jean is an Associate in the Employment Team. Jean has been qualified for 8 years. 

She advises clients in relation to a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment law and HR issues. Jean deals mainly with contentious employment tribunal claims including unfair dismissal, redundancy, various types of discrimination, whistle-blowing, breach of contract, unlawful deduction of wages, maternity, paternity and flexible working, Working Time Regulations, equal pay and TUPE cases.

She also deals with non contentious matters and advises clients on redundancy processes and disciplinary/grievance procedures, drafting and reviewing employment contracts and handbooks, and general day to day HR management. She has extensive experience of negotiating settlements and drafting compromise agreements and COT3s.

Relevant experience

  • Private company: Defending a claim of constructive unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, sex harassment and victimisation which was subject to a Restricted Reporting Order and listed for a 7-day hearing.
  • Local school: Acting for a school in respect of a constructive unfair dismissal claim arising from allegations dating back to November 2006. Settlement was secured and for a nominal sum.
  • Private company: Successful defence of a Claimant's application for Interim Relief in respect of his whistleblowing claim at an Interim Relief Hearing at which costs were awarded to our client. The Claimant subsequently withdrew his claims.
