James advises clients in respect of all areas of planning law, with a particular focus on residential development, retail planning and mixed use regeneration schemes.
As part of his practice, James routinely drafts and negotiates all types of planning and infrastructure agreements. He also assists clients with navigating the complexities of the appeals process, judicial review and other statutory challenges.
Prior to joining Ashfords, James worked in the planning team for a leading international law firm in Bristol.
- Private sector house builder: Advising on the acquisition of a residential development site forming part of a new garden village in Kent which included 5000 new dwellings.
- Leading national department store and food retailer: Assisting with judicial review proceedings which challenged the grant of planning permission of a local planning authority on the basis that it had failed to properly apply the sequential test.
- Commercial developer: Advising in connection with a mixed-use leisure scheme in South Gloucestershire, comprising an ice rink, snow dome and indoor sky-diving facility.
