Congratulations to the Three Peaks Challenge team who successfully climbed all three-peaks in an impressive 23 hours and 35 minutes last week.
The teams included:
- Ashfords LLP - Chris Gregson, Carol Gaskell and Philip Strange.
- Francis Clark - Sean Grinsted, Mike Pearce and Glenn Nicol.
- Edward Symmons - Matthew Hartley, Philip Gibson, Jason Hall and Gary Hooper.
- Barclays - Steve Hocking, Nigel Brown, Stephen Beard with Graham Austin and Rob Allum driving the teams throughout the challenge.
The total amount of monies raised so far is an impressive £11,263 which will be shared across the Children's Hospice South West, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, Calvert Trust Exmoor and Help for Heroes.
The team was blessed with excellent weather, dry throughout and with excellent visibility for Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike. After starting the walk at 4:45pm on Friday afternoon the 10mile walk and over 4000ft of ascent took 4 hours including 30 minutes at the top for photos. After a quick change and some hot food prepared by the support team a six hour drive saw the team arrive at Wasdale Head at first light starting the ascent of Scafell Pike at 3:45am. The beautiful clear calm morning energised tired legs and the team made it up and down the six mile route with just over 3000ft of ascent in 4 hours. Back into the bus for the five hour drive to Snowdon. Heavy traffic and heavy rain was a concern but fortunately no major delay and by the time the team arrived at the start it was dry with 4 hours left to complete the walk. Another 6 miles but a more modest 2500ft of ascent was achieved comfortably inside the deadline. A celebratory meal in Shrewsbury gave an opportunity to reflect on the scale of the achievement before getting some badly needed sleep.
