National law firm Ashfords is preparing Wills in aid of the firm's Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society, in lieu of normal charges.

Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that supports those affected by dementia through both practical and emotional support. The charity also invests in world-class research and campaigns to improve public understanding of dementia and the devastating impact it can have.

The Wills Scheme will start on Monday 25 September and will expire on Friday 29 September, or once the tenth Will has been prepared, in Ashfords' Exeter and Tiverton offices. The successful applicants will receive a professionally prepared Will and 100 percent of their donation will be given to Alzheimer's Society.

Victoria Green, Associate at Ashfords, commented: "For the past few years the firm has taken part in the Wills Scheme for charity, and it has continued to prove to be hugely popular. Writing a valid Will is the only way you can be sure that your wishes are carried out after your death, and this scheme is a great way to promote the importance of having a Will whilst raising money for Alzheimer's Society".

Why write a Will?

Writing a valid Will is the only way you can be sure that your wishes are carried out and your loved ones provided for after your death.  Also, dying without a Will may cause your family the distress of resolving legal problems on top of losing a loved one.

What will my Ashfords solicitor do as part of this scheme?

  • Your solicitor will advise you on what you need to take into consideration and meet you to discuss your wishes.
  • Your solicitor will draft your Will for your approval before finalising it.
  • Instead of paying your solicitor’s fee, you will be invited to make a donation to charity. The suggested donation for 1 Will is £137.50, or for a couple seeking double Wills £212.50. These suggestions are equivalent to half the usual fee!
  • If your Will is more complex, you and your solicitor can agree a separate fee for the extra work outside of the Wills for Alzheimer’s Society arrangement.

To apply to be a part of the Wills for Alzheimer’s Society scheme, or if you have any related queries, please contact Victoria Green on 01392 333878.
