What were you doing before you joined the firm?
I took a gap year before I started university to be a volunteer police officer. I then took the traditional route of a law degree, followed by my LPC, and started at Ashfords in September 2015.
I wanted to work at a firm where I would be granted responsibility and work in close knit teams. That is definitely what you get in the London office (where I am based).
What areas of law have you worked in so far?
My first seat was in Property Litigation, followed by Commercial Property (plenty of Real Estate work in my first year!) followed by a corporate seat. I am currently doing a Projects seat. All the areas have been very different.
Most interesting case you have worked on?
During my time with Property Litigation I was lucky enough to get involved with a case for non-payment of rent. Arranging bailiffs for peaceable re-entry onto the premises and then ending up in court to contest the Tenant's application for relief from forfeiture was riveting. Unfortunately their application was granted, but our client did recover the rent arrears as a condition of relief.
What has been your biggest challenge at Ashfords?
My first seat move was rather daunting. I was dreading having to move, after finally bedding down and figuring out the basics of the area I was in, only to have to move. However, the switches since then have become less frightening and more exciting.
What is your favourite thing about working at Ashfords?
Probably the Reception Team at every office (particularly in London). You get the same warm welcome from whichever Ashfords office you end up in.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I own an 8ft bear! (cuddly not grizzly)
What is your aspiration?
To succeed at whatever I may put my mind to next. With qualification around the corner, I am hoping that is a challenging NQ role in an area that suits me.
