Greater fairness and transparency in online intermediation services: timeline update

EU Regulation 2019/1150 on "promoting fairness and transparency for business users of online intermediation services" will apply to online intermediation services or search engines which are available to consumers in the EU, from 12 July 2020. The Regulation seeks to ensure fairness for online businesses, by, amongst other things, requiring transparency in respect of terms and conditions, ranking of goods and services and access to data.

Due to the uncertainty of Brexit, the implication of this timeframe for the UK is unclear. In any event, the UK may still follow suit and adopt similar legislation to protect UK business users.
