Meet the Apprentice - Tanya Hastings

Tanya Hastings - Legal Administrator Apprentice in our Residential Property Team

What advice would you give to someone looking for / applying for an apprenticeship?
If the opportunity arises then take it. Apprenticeships give you another path into a career where you are able to earn money, learn and develop practical skills at the same time. Apprenticeships also avoid the financial debt of attending university, and act as a 'foot in the door' with a company who are supportive of your progression and help you to grow your career.

What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship at Ashfords?
I enjoy how you are not treated like 'an apprentice' but as part of the team. I also enjoy how the off the job learning is all self-managed as it provides you with freedom and it doesn’t make it feel like you are still in school.

What are the differences between school life and office life and how did you find settling into office life?
The main difference is the independence. In school you are told what needs to be done and when it needs to be done by. Whereas in the world of work, you are given the responsibility to manage your own work load and notice when things need to be finished. This is something you learn once you are in the role, Ashfords have been very supportive in helping me to develop these skills.
