Meet the Apprentice - Emily Lewis-Clarke

How does an apprenticeship work at Ashfords?

I’m currently completing the level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship within the HR department at Ashfords. 80% of the work is practical within my department, whilst 20% is group study with the other Apprentices. We have continual support from an external trainer who regularly visits and reviews our progress throughout the course.

What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship at Ashfords? / What's great about working at Ashfords?

The Culture! Ashfords is very inclusive and down to earth, so work life is relaxed and enjoyable. My team are friendly and constantly supportive, providing me with opportunities to learn and take on my own roles and projects within the team. The fact that I am gaining experience within HR, developing valuable life skills, great friendships and obtaining a qualification all in one is brilliant.

What advice would you give to someone looking for / applying for an apprenticeship?

I think it’s important to familiarise yourself with a company and their values before applying. This way, you can gain an idea of whether the organisation is the right fit for you and your career goals.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I have always been aware of the value of experience and I knew this wasn’t something I could achieve at university. After completing my A levels I felt ready to jump into full time employment but I was still conscious I didn’t want to miss out on qualifications which meant that the apprenticeship route was perfect for me.
