Amie Tradelius - Business Administrator Apprentice in our Marketing & Business Development Team
What advice would you give to someone looking for / applying for an apprenticeship?
The best advice I would give when looking for apprenticeships is to make sure you do your research and have a genuine interest in what you are applying for as this is what you will be doing for the next 18 - 24 months.
What's great about working at Ashfords?
The people! When I joined I was very nervous and completely out of my comfort zone. I have never worked in an office environment and as my first office job, I found it quite daunting. The people at Ashfords made me feel so welcome and understood that I had no experience, they always make the time to explain tasks and how things work.
What are the differences between school life and office life?
I initially struggled to adjust to being at a desk for most of the day - compared to being at school where most of my lessons were in different buildings which meant quite a bit of walking around, I also enjoyed going to PE lessons twice a week. Luckily, we have a gym at the Ashfords Exeter office which is free to use and open all day meaning you can go on your lunch breaks or before / after work - I tend to go quite regularly after work to make up for being sat down all day. They also offer lunch time fitness classes.
How did you find settling into office life?
Overall I found settling into office life okay. It isn’t just something you get used to straight away as it is a completely different environment to school, but I couldn’t imagine going back to school now. The people that work at Ashfords are all really supportive and my supervisor and I have regular meetings so she can monitor my work load and I can tell her how I am progressing or if I need any additional support.
