Family Awarded Compensation After Holiday From Hell
Tuesday, 14th October 2014
A family have been awarded compensation after a 'disastrous' trip to a Bulgarian hotel left them so ill that they are still suffering symptoms four years later.
The group of 16 became sick just days after arriving at the all-inclusive resort in a Black Sea resort of Elenite in 2010.
Symptoms included severe abdominal pain, diarrhoea, sickness and lethargy. The family gave an account of appalling and unhygenic hotel conditions. Cockroaches were found in the rooms and flies in the food.
The exposure to the hotel sick bug left five of the children with on-going stomach cramps and vomiting which their parents now worry will remain life-long problems
Primary liability was admitted on the part of the tour operator and they were ordered by Sheffield County Court to pay compensation to the victims. Among the family were six children, who were awarded a total of £90,000. The adults within the family were awarded nearly £30,000.
