Charles specialises in employment law and HR support, including in particular transactional work (share sales, TUPE and Local Government PFI and other outsourcing projects), policies and procedures and their implementation, Tribunal litigation and document preparation. Clients include private education sector clients, Local Authorities, public sector contractors and professional service providers such as accountants, architects and surveyors.
Charles joined the firm in 1989, becoming Associate in 1994, and was made a Partner in 2000. He is Ashfords' Training Principal, and is jointly responsible for the recruitment of the firm's annual intake of 15 trainee solicitors.
Recent projects include:
- Successful mediation of a multi-issue long-running employment and share dispute;
- Advice to local authorities and service operators on TUPE issues in large local authority contracting-out projects;

Guiding commercial clients through complex disciplinary, grievance and appeals processes;

Negotiating TUPE warranties and indemnities on a variety of TUPE and share sale commercial transactions;

Advising various commercial clients about complex redundancy procedures with difficult selection issues; and

Advising an education client about various internal re-organisations.
