Mark is a Partner and Head of the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Team. He specialises in the fields of intellectual property information technology and commercial law.

Mark has a background in commerce, having worked for ICI as a market analyst before qualifying as a Solicitor. He has also worked in house on secondment in the legal department of a large PLC.

Recent work includes:

  • Lead partner on the acquisition of a globally renowned market leading geomechanicalsoftware and consultancy company operating in the oil and gas industry;
  • Establishing US joint ventures for different clients in

    a) Oil field drilling services

    b) Production and marketing of biomass renewable energy crops; and

  • Advising on long-term partnering arrangements with the private sector for the development of life sciences technologies and its commercial exploitation created at a leading UK University.
In addition to his private sector transactional work Mark has handled innovative ICT equipment and service procurement projects for various public bodies, national organisations and local authorities, ranging from outsourcing deals, to the design and build of an electronic communications infrastructure.

Mark has spoken at seminars throughout the UK supported by Microsoft, the Institute of Directors and the British Chambers of Commerce on the legal risks of working electronically and has supported Microsoft in awareness of the importance of software asset management as one method of reducing counterfeit software.

Mark is the Chairman of the South West Intellectual Property Practitioners Group, a Member of the Licensing Executives Society and of the Society for Computers and Law. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and of the Solicitors European Group. Mark co-ordinates the international ADVOC IP interest group and frequently works on international projects protecting and exploiting IP rights.
