John deals with a wide variety of matters including:
- planning and associated applications;
- planning and environmental appeals and inquiries;
- enforcement notices and prosecutions;
- waste law;
- contaminated land issues in development;

- environmental law.
- advising a turbine manufacturing company on discharge and emissions consent issues following a sale of part of their site;

advising East London Waste Authority on the selected PFI partner, Shanks Waste in respect of planning applications for new waste facilities (including MBT plant) on sites at Frog Island, Rainham and Jenkins Lane, Newham as well as new civic amenity sites. The work included advice on the planning applications and environmental statements, BPEO, plnning agreements and IPPC licences;

advising the funders of a sea salt processing unit to be constructed in a site of special scientific interest in Cornwall upon consent issues including a peculiar personal planning permission, a discharge consent, and tidal works and Food and Environmental Protection Act licences;
- advising a Village Society on a judicial review of a decision to allow a fishermen's jetty in an area that is an area of outstanding natural beauty, a site of special scientific interest and a special area of conservation;

advising upon the environmental statement for the redevelopment of Hayle Harbour;

advising an importer and distributor of electrical products on the implications of the WEEE regulations;

advising West Berkshire Council on potential compulsory purchase orders for prospective and existing waste sites, linked to the Council's PFI scheme;
- advising Gazelle Properties on the planning status of a waste recycling facility in Bath;

advising SEEDA in respect of the threatened compulsory acquisition of a contaminated former gas works site in Deal;

advising Torbay Borough Council the Council on the rights of a sewerage undertaker to install a sewage holding tank beneath its land under section 159 Water Industry Act;

representing planning authorities and land owners at public inquiries for lawful use application for an architectural reclamation/scrap yard; and
- advising in connection with many contaminated sites in London Docklands, including the Thames Barrier park.
John is a legal associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and a member of the RTPI's Regeneration Network. He is a director of Devon Environmental Business Initiative and a Planning Aid volunteer. From 2004 to 2007 he was a member of the Planning Inspectorate's Advisory Panel on Standards.
John speaks regularly at conferences, both regional and national and has had articles published in the Property Law Journal, Estates Gazette, Planning, New Start, Regeneration Magazine and the Journal of Planning and Environment Law.
