John is a Partner and Head of the Planning Team. He worked within both the public sector and private sector before joining Ashfords, including 5 years at international law firm Ashurst Morris Crisp. John deals with all aspects of planning and compulsory purchase law from negotiating planning agreements to undertaking appeals. He has dealt with planning applications and section 106 agreements in the context of health and education PFI schemes as well as for LIFT and BSF proposals.
Recent experience includes:

the relocation and redevelopment of Newbury FE College;

defending a judicial review of a planning permission for student accommodation in Birmingham;

obtaining outline consents for Bristol Schools PFI development;

acting for Devon County Council in connection with the planning agreement for Cranbrook, East Devon, to include provision for two new primary schools and a secondary school by the developer;

opposing the registration of a town green on a school playing field site in Bristol; and
- advising North Devon District Council in connection with the relocation of North Devon College.
