David is Managing Partner of Ashfords' Plymouth Office and a member of the Firm's Management Board. He is a former President of the Plymouth Law Society and has been a Partner in Ashfords and its predecessor firm, Bevan Ashford since 1978.

David has a broad range of experience in all aspects of contentious work. In the past this has included family law, an area which predominated in his workload until the early nineteen-nineties when he switched to specialize in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. In recent years he has also developed a niche area of specialist advice in areas of defamation law and reputation management.

David's mediation skills have developed naturally from David's career background. His training as a Mediator was with ADR Group and since completing his training in 1997, he has been appointed as Mediator in a wide range of disputes which have included:

• professional negligence involving solicitors, accountants and valuers;
• property (including boundary) disputes;
• personal injury claims;
• inheritance claims;
• partnership disputes;
• contractual claims and
  
• disputes over professional fees.

As part of the mediation service offered, David travels throughout the United Kingdom to mediation venues suitable for the parties. He has mediated in the Channel Islands, Birmingham and London as well as the South West. Ashfords' new Exeter Office premises are offered to parties and are an ideal venue for mediation. These premises are newly built, at Junction 29 of the M5 Motorway, easily accessible and provide first class mediation facilities and IT Support.

David advises companies, individuals and clients from both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, David is lead partner for a number of Firm's local authority and education clients.

Singled out in successive editions of the Legal 500 as bringing 'a calm and capable hand to a wide range of commercial disputes' and as " a particularly strong choice for media-related disputes, including defamation claims", David is acknowledged for his commercial awareness and inter-personal skills
