Ashfords wins 'Best Trainer' Oscar

Introduction

South West law firm Ashfords has just won a prestigious legal 'Oscar' having being named 'Best Trainer' in a nationwide poll of some 2,500 trainees and newly qualified solicitors from law firms around the country.

Ashfords 'Training & Recruitment Award' comes from the LawCareers.Net & Trainee Solicitors' Group, an authoritative body which recognises the best recruiters and trainers among UK law firms every year.

Trainees and newly qualified solicitors (NQs) were invited to complete an online survey assessing their own experiences and highlighting best practice.

One of just 12 winners in the country -- and only two in the South West -- Ashfords ranking as 'Best Trainer' for a medium-sized regional law firm reinforces the practice's strong commitment to top-quality training.

Ashfords HR Manager Ken Bryant comments: "Every year, our trainees tell us that they like our hard-working, friendly approach, plus the wide range of quality legal work on offer, so we're delighted we have won this award.

"Ashfords enjoys an excellent reputation in attracting and developing top quality legal recruits and, over the past few years, we have employed almost all of the trainees who qualify with us.

"This year, we have a record number of trainee solicitors with 23 working in the firm's five offices across the region, including 13 in Exeter, two in Bristol, two in Plymouth, and three each in Taunton and Tiverton."

Ashfords trainees carry out a two-year training contract and most, if not all, sign up as qualified solicitors at the end of their training in one of the firm's offices.

Each trainee spends six months working in four different 'seats' of the law, and in different offices, covering a variety of legal work, in order to ensure they develop a broad range of skills before they qualify.

LawCareers.Net publisher Matthew Broadbent said: "The fact that our survey response has risen again to over 2,500 trainees and NQs underlines the authoritative nature of the results. The winning and nominated firms can be justifiably proud of themselves.

"We are delighted that so many employers offer their trainees top-quality training and working environments. It is self-evident that organisations seen to excel in their treatment of those entering the business will continue to grow and thrive as the next generation of leaders flourishes."
