Teenage surf star sponsored by Ashfords set to take on the world
Friday 25th March 2011Teenage surf star Laura Crane is set to take on the world when she heads to Peru this spring.
The 16-year-old from Croyde, who was last year's British under-18 champion, will jet off to the South American country in April, where she will be part of the GB team at the Quicksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
Being picked for the team is just one of a string of successes for Laura, who has represented her country all over the world and was named runner-up in the Truscott's Young Sportswoman of the Year category in the Journal Sports Awards.
Laura said: "I am really excited about going to Peru and honoured to have been picked to represent Great Britain. I am sure it will be one of the highlights of what will hopefully be another great year for me.
"I have been training really hard for the event and recently spent time at a Russell Winter surf training camp in Costa Rica, which was really worthwhile and a great experience."
Laura is being supported in her quest by Ashfords Solicitors, the region's largest law firm, which has decided to sponsor her. Garry Mackay, a Partner at Ashfords LLP, said: "We believe it is imperative that businesses like ours support talented individuals from the region. Laura embodies the drive and determination that is necessary for success and we are proud to work with her to achieve her ambitions. We wish her every success in the forthcoming world championships.
"We have an active sports law department at Ashfords and we believe it is really important to invest in the local community and to promote talented young people in the Westcountry."
Laura said: "Ashfords Solicitors have been really supportive of me and last year paid for my travel expenses to get to and from events. Their sponsorship has been invaluable in helping me to realise my surfing ambitions."
When she is not surfing, Laura is also a successful model and jetted to Costa Rica for a photoshoot with her other sponsors Billabong, as well as working with Cadburys to help sell their hot chocolate.
