Talented artists compete for £500 prize in schools competition run by Ashfords
Friday 25th March 2011Budding young artists are competing for the chance to win £500 for their school - and to see their work grace the walls of the offices of one of the regions largest law firms.
Work by Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils at Tiverton High School, Blundell's School and Uffculme School will be judged by a panel of local artists selected by Ashfords Solicitors.
The boardroom at the law firm's Tiverton office in Gotham House has recently been redecorated but the firm was looking for some colourful artwork to add the finishing touch.
Flora Wood, a partner at Ashfords, explained "We were hoping to display works by local artists on our walls. We decided that the competition would achieve that and also give an opportunity to celebrate the talent of young people in the local community."
"I really look forward to seeing the finished artwork. We will keep and display all of the submitted pieces in the board room."
Pupils are creating work based on the theme of harmony, using acrylic paint on a one metre squared canvas with a budget for materials of £50.00.
The deadline for the competition is the end of March - but to ensure Ashfords' walls are not bare in the meantime, Tiverton High School has allowed the law firm to borrow some art already created by pupils.
