Mock tribunals help prepare HR professionals
Tuesday 13th December 2011
Leading law firm Ashfords held two mock employment tribunals to give HR professionals and managers an invaluable insight into what actually goes on in an Employment Tribunal.
'Actors’ from Ashfords’ highly-experienced employment team, played the roles of witnesses, advocates and panel members, and were joined by practising Employment Judge, Stephen Wyeth of 3 Paper Buildings Chambers.
The tribunal was based around a gross misconduct unfair dismissal claim, tackling the topical area of social networking and blogging.
The events, at Ashfords' head office on Exeter Business Park and at Ashfords' Bristol office in Tower Wharf, were attended by representatives from private and public sector organisations in the South West.
Stephen Moore, Head of Employment at Ashfords, said: "It has been a long time since we have held a mock tribunal, but we felt it was an excellent way for HR professionals and managers to get a taste for the real thing. It was clearly a topic of considerable interest for businesses, as we were well oversubscribed.
"The event was a great success - entertaining as well as informative - and we had some extremely positive feedback. We hope to hold another, similar event, in the new year."
Dr Graham Hawley, Headmaster of Kelly College in Tavistock, who attended the Exeter event, said: "Excellent session - relevant, focused and pragmatic. A first class event".
