Lawyers help promote Devon stage of Tour of Britain
Thursday 8th September 2011
Exeter lawyers worked in partnership with Devon County Council to promote the county's leg of the Tour of Britain by hosting a cycle networking event on Dartmoor.
Keen amateur cyclists from businesses across the county were joined by Rapha Condor Sharp's Jonathan Tiernan-Locke and Motorpoint's Marcin Bialoblocki in the latest Cycle Networking event hosted by Ashfords LLP.
The group had a taste of what faces the professionals when the tour arrives in Devon on 15th September and faced gruelling climbs at Haytor, Coffin Stone and Huccaby Tor. Participants will take in Dartmoor National Park during the 110-mile event starting in Exeter and finishing in Exmouth.
Tim Heal, a Partner at Ashfords LLP, said: "It was a great experience riding with riders of Jonathan and Marcin's calibre; they make it all look so easy. It's going to be a cracking stage of the Tour of Britain. The route is tough, but it's over spectacular countryside and will be great to watch."
Set up in 2009, Ashfords Cycling Network has grown in size and, in the ride before the promotional event on Dartmoor, attracted 75 business representatives from all over Devon.
Tim said: "We have many keen cyclists within the firm and over the last few years have supported a number of cycling initiatives. We realised that many of our clients and business contacts were already cyclists or getting in to the sport, but often rode alone and were not members of a cycling club. The aim of the cycle network is to have a group ride and a chance to meet new people with a common interest - the feedback from those who have ridden has been great."
Along with Devon County Council, Ashfords also co-sponsors South West under-23 cycling team Team Qoroz, which has achieved a number of victories this season. Team Qoroz also visits schools across the South West throughout the year to encourage young people to get on their bikes.
