Ashfords Cycle Extravaganza

Tuesday 23rd June 2009

Over 230 adults and 130 children took part in the six or 12-mile course along Exeter canal to Double Locks or Turf Lock to raise money for Force Cancer Charity. The event attracted a mix of participants with the ages of the cyclists ranging from four to 72!

The starting point, Flowerpot Lane Playing Fields in Exwick, also featured a mini bike fair with Mountain Bike Trials and BMX demonstrations, a Cycle Circus with lots of wacky bikes to try, Unicycle displays, Dr. Bike checks and free cycle security tagging. The cycle ride was officially opened at 11am by the Chairman of Devon County Council, John Rawlinson, and the Lord Mayor of Exeter, John Winterbottom.

All those who completed the challenge received a voucher for refreshments, courtesy of Ashfords, plus a certificate and a bike bell. Ian Daniells, Chief Executive of Ashfords LLP said: "We are delighted to have supported Cycle Sunday for the second year running. The firm is committed to promoting cycling as a healthy alternative to car travel and are pleased to support this event which encourages all members of our local community to take to their bikes. We are delighted that so many people took advantage of the good weather and joined us at Flowerpot Lane Playing Fields."
