CoGen, a leading Advanced Gasification Waste to Energy company within the UK, and Ashfords LLP, a national law firm with its roots firmly in the South West, have been delivering commercially viable Energy from Waste projects together for over 10 years.

Both companies share a passion for developing and supporting their local communities including top flight rugby in the Westcountry through their continued sponsorship of Kingsbridge Rugby Football Club (KRFC) and key players from Premiership Championship contenders Exeter Chiefs.

The weekend’s game against 5th place Leicester Tigers saw the result of this support come together when a number of the companies key sponsored players made the line up in this crucial premiership clash, including:

  • Kai Horstmann (Coach at KRFC) - Openside Flanker;
  • Thomas Waldron (CoGen sponsored player) - Number Eight;
  • Stu Townsend (KRFC coaching programme & CoGen sponsored player) - Scrum Half;
  • Henry Slade (Ashfords' sponsored player) - Fly Half; and
  • Jack Maunder (Ashfords sponsored player) Scrum Half (coming on from the bench)

Chief executive of CoGen, Ian Brooking, commented: “Watching this 7, 8, 9, 10 partnership on the pitch was very rewarding. As Chairman of Kingsbridge it’s been a pleasure to watch Stu progress through our club all the way from under 7’s to now see him hungry to play top flight rugby with the likes of Kai, Henry and Thomas."

Partner at Ashfords, commented: "It is such a pleasure to watch young players such as Stuart emerge from grass roots clubs such as Kingsbridge (who Ashfords are delighted to sponsor) and having also sponsored Henry and Jack since they were promising youngsters in the Chiefs Academy just adds to the enjoyment of cheering on the Chiefs at the weekend."

Corporate Sales Executive at Exeter Chiefs Chris Bentley remarked: “Without the sustained and passionate support of local businesses like Ashfords and CoGen the club would not be where it is. Local players, local sponsorship and local support is key to the Chiefs continued success”.
